Tony Hillier – Rhythms Magazine CD Review – July/Aug 2015 Issue
The Shane Pacey Trio’s second album, Watch Out!, has the Cigars’ frontman delving deeper into his blues roots in the company of drummer Dave Fester and bassman Paul Blasi. This format allows Pacey to stretch out and show the full range of his inventive, cliché-free guitar playing and soulful singing on songs written by various heroes. The Trio’s covers of Freddie King’s ‘See See Baby’, Big Bill Broonzy’s ‘Key To The Highway’, Jessie Mae Robinson’s ‘Cold Cold Feeling’ and Albert King’s ‘Don’t Burn Down The Bridge’ is especially dynamic. Pacey’s interpretation of Dylan’s oft-overlooked gem ‘The Groom’s Still Waiting At The Altar’ is another highlight.

The remaining tracks are filled with the early rockier, and swamp filled sounds from a bygone era. They need to be played; just to remind us why this music grabbed us by the throat all those years ago. The Shane Pacey Trio certainly does that; laying down the perfect platform as an introduction for the next generation of musicians – hopefully inspiring them to investigate, and delve deeper, into the history and music of these artists. Oh, and at the same time, re-energizing and satisfying the souls of the rest of us!

Thank you Shane & Davo for the cd which turned up today. I love both the Trio album & the new Bondi Cigars release. I will feature both on Top Shelf Music 89.7FM Sunday 4-6 pm in the near future. Both will be contenders for my end of year top 10 albums (& that’s all types of music, not just blues.) Cheers.

Hey Davo Fester, we are playing the CD now. Great energy and raw alright, you sound like a real band without the bells and whistles. “We don’t sound like a recording studio product” is the message loud and clear. Honest and seriously good !! In short. WE LOVE IT !!!
